Lakeland Logs & Charcoal

Lakeland Logs & Charcoal is a family run business supplying quality logs, charcoal and associated products throughout the UK.

Deep in the woodlands of Cumbria, our family business begins long before a fire is lit. Local hardwoods — oak, ash, birch, beech and sycamore — are sustainably sourced from surrounding forests and brought into our yard, where generations of knowledge meet modern craftsmanship. From the moment a tree is felled, the drying process begins, preserving the dense, slow-burning qualities that make British hardwood so prized.

Each log is cut and split on our state-of-the-art processing line, carefully cleaned of bark and sawdust, then kiln-dried below 20% moisture for a hotter, cleaner burn. The result is firewood trusted for everything from cosy winter stoves to roaring pizza ovens and alpine log boilers.

Alongside Lakeland Logs, Lakeland Charcoal was born from the same belief: local timber deserves local craftsmanship. Using an advanced retort system, we transform sustainable British hardwood into premium lumpwood charcoal through pyrolysis — heating wood in a low-oxygen environment until only pure carbon remains. No chemicals, no fillers, no shortcuts. Just natural charcoal made the traditional way.

At a time when most charcoal sold in Britain is imported with little traceability, we are proud to keep production rooted in British soil. Every bag supports sustainable woodland management, lower transport emissions, and rural livelihoods while delivering a cleaner, higher-quality fuel.

For us, this is more than firewood and charcoal. It is the story of British woodland, hard work, and a family continuing a tradition built around warmth, craft and the landscape we call home.
